Anatomical Boundaries
- Cranial
- The C5 vertebra is the cranial landmark
- Caudal
- The T2 vertebrae is the cranial landmark
- Medial
- Medially the contour extends upto the spil cord contour
- Lateral
- Laterally the contour should extend to the axilla upto the level where the axillary vessels seem to turn upwards
- Ventral
- In the neck region the scalenus anterior muscle is the anterior boundary and in the axillary region, the anterior or ventral boundary is the axillary artery.
- Dorsal
- In the cervical region, the scalenus medius is the dorsal or posterior boundary. Further laterally the dorsal boundary is formed by the rib (1st rib) and further laterally 5 mm behind the artery
