Guideline
Taken from Eekers DBP, Di Perri D, Roelofs E, Postma A, Dijkstra J, Ajithkumar T, et al. Update of the EPTN atlas for CT- and MR-based contouring in Neuro-Oncology. Radiother Oncol 2021;160:259–65. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.radonc.2021.05.013.
Method
Manual. The optic nerve (2–5 mm thick) is delineated from the posterior edge of the eyeball, through the bony optic canal, where it narrows slightly, to the optic chiasm. Close to the optic chiasm, an MR scan (T1 weighted) is recommended for better delineation of the optic nerve

Anatomical Boundaries

Cranial
Topmost slice where the optic nerve is visisble.
Caudal
Inferior most slice where the optic nerve is visible.
Medial
Outer contour of the optic chiasm
Lateral
Outer contour of the optic chiasm
Ventral
Posterior edge of the eyeball
Dorsal
Optic chiasm
