Delineation Information
- Modality
- MR
- Guideline
- Taken from Eekers DBP, Di Perri D, Roelofs E, Postma A, Dijkstra J, Ajithkumar T, et al. Update of the EPTN atlas for CT- and MR-based contouring in Neuro-Oncology. Radiother Oncol 2021;160:259–65. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.radonc.2021.05.013.
- Method
- Manual. The optic nerve (2–5 mm thick) is delineated from the posterior edge of the eyeball, through the bony optic canal, where it narrows slightly, to the optic chiasm. Close to the optic chiasm, an MR scan (T1 weighted) is recommended for better delineation of the optic nerve
Anatomical Boundaries
- Cranial
- Topmost slice where the optic nerve is visisble.
- Caudal
- Inferior most slice where the optic nerve is visible.
- Medial
- Outer contour of the optic chiasm
- Lateral
- Outer contour of the optic chiasm
- Ventral
- Posterior edge of the eyeball
- Dorsal
- Optic chiasm
