Guidelines

The guideline used is Hall WH, Guiou M, Lee NY, Dublin A, rayan S, Vijayakumar S, et al. Development and validation of a standardized method for contouring the brachial plexus: prelimiry dosimetric alysis among patients treated with IMRT for head-and-neck cancer. Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2008;72:1362–7. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijrobp.2008.03.004.

Method

Manual drawn using a brush of 5 mm diameter

Structure Boundaries

Cranial Boundary

The C5 vertebra is the cranial landmark

Caudal Boundary

The T2 vertebrae is the cranial landmark

Medial Boundary

Medially the contour extends upto the spil cord contour

Lateral Boundary

Laterally the contour should extend to the axilla upto the level where the axillary vessels seem to turn upwards

Ventral Boundary

In the neck region the scalenus anterior muscle is the anterior boundary and in the axillary region, the anterior or ventral boundary is the axillary artery.

Dorsal Boundary

In the cervical region, the scalenus medius is the dorsal or posterior boundary. Further laterally the dorsal boundary is formed by the rib (1st rib) and further laterally 5 mm behind the artery
